Time Warp Again

From “Fluid Ground” curated by Pia Singh
Curator's Note:
"Alyssa Knowling and Marcus Stabenow of ‘Visitor Assembly’ move us into subconsciousness of the pandemic. The impact of the last year on our individual and collective psyche is conjured through an amalgamation of soundscapes, poetry and photography in Time Warp Again. Solvej Helweg Ovesen parallels the covid-19 lockdown as “psychedelic experience, releasing all our fears and dreams all at once.” (ISCP New York, April 2020) almost as an extension to this thought experiment, if we were to trace our memories of a pre-pandemic era from the standpoint of the present, what kinds of distortion or perceptual dissonance would arise? Bridging our syntactic understanding of what the world once-was to what-it-is, Visitor Assembly conjures up images of memories that we can’t quite access, similar to never being able to recall one memory twice. Thinking of the pandemic as an inversion of space and time, we experience negatives of images that require us to have an intuitive image of the picture without ever having seen the space, place or person they’ve photographed, in our minds. While color, texture and light may assist with our perception of these images, an accompanying soundtrack ‘Time Warp Again’ creates an emotional re-cognitive layer that aids in our visual association to an almost cinematic degree. thinking of memories as a way of making meaning of our lives at a time when hope feels distant, Visitor Assembly plants part-true/part-false images in our minds, creating a hallucinatory experience that blends fact and fiction in a futuristic way. An interactive webpage compels viewers to re-arrange the images presented in the exhibition, to create recognizable forms or flows that wouldn’t be possible otherwise within the physical space." - Pia Singh

An exploration in Self-Balance using the elements of design– shape, form, and space. Seeking the ways in our SELF that make us feel balanced. Through-out the creative process the team questioned the idea of "identity" & how it correlates to us having a healthy view of ourselves, creating balance out of formless matter as we continue to explore the SELF– which gives shape to our life.
